I was just reading an article in Fortune Magazine yesterday about how hot the job market for online advertising sales has become. Here’s a link to the article: Hot Job: Selling Web Ads I was quite shocked. If read the article you’ll see they are talking about NYC salaries of $500,000 a year! I mean wow, this sounds like the 90’s again. After reading the article I didn’t really believe it either. So, I jumped over to careerbuilder.com and did a search (online advertising) for the Philly area. Most of the listings didn’t show salaries, but I did find a good example:
$50,000.00 – $200,000.00 /Year
$100,000.00
Full benefits and expense allowance
WOW! I mean it’s a sales job so you are surely expected to work like a dog and you have to perform or you’re gone. I’m not really looking for a “job”, but hey… I’ll keep my options open for that.
You know I started thinking though. With a job like that, a company that has a platform is selling to companies to get them to place their ads on the platform. Now what I do is Search Enginge Marketing (SEM). I help companies get their ads on platforms, i.e. Google AdSense, Yahoo Search Marketing, Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions. It’s pretty much the other side of the industry. The salaries that are being awarded to the sales people is a sign of how hot the market is right now. So, the question is: “What does that mean for Blackbird e-Solutions?” Well, it means that now is an exciting time to be in the SEM industry, and makes it a great time to offer my service as a premium service. How much can we make in one year??? Hang on because we’re about to find out!!
